The Most Holy. Title given by the Báb to Ḥájí Muḥammad-'Alíy-i-Bárfurús̲h̲í,
the last Letter of the Living,
'the beloved disciple whose primacy was unquestioned'.6 He accompanied the Báb to Mecca and attended the Conference
of Badas̲h̲t. He joined the Bábís in the fort at S̲h̲ayk̲h̲ Ṭabarsí and was taken from there to his native town at Barfurush.
There he was tortured, and in May 1849 in the public square, he was struck down with
an axe, dismembered and burnt.

of the Living, second only to the Báb in rank, identified with one of the "Messengers charged with imposture" (Qur'án
36:13) and one of the two "witnesses" of St. John the Divine. (GBP 49; SAQ
