Poor, i.e., in need of God's
mercy, poor in the sight of God.
These are divided into two great classes, those who live by Qur'ánic law and those who, though calling themselves Muslims,
live without the law. A member of the former is known as a traveler (sálik--saw-leck)
on the pathway (taríqat--ta-ree-cat) to heaven. The latter are ázád
(awe-zawd) free, or majd̲h̲úb (maj-zoob), rapt, abstracted, attracted.
There are more orders of faqárs, practicing many, and often secret, ceremonies.
Their doctrines are Ṣúfí,
and their religious ceremonies are called dhikrs (zeckr)--rememberings. |
