Beginning of the Christian Calendar annotated as A.D. for Anno Domini - In the year of our Lord - Christian / Gregorian Calendar. The Christian Calendar followed the Julian Calendar until October 1582 when Pope Gregory mandated that adjustments be made to coincide with the equinoxes and solstices.
