[Ar] Dove. Surname given by Bahá'u'lláh to the Bahá'í teacher and poet Mírzá 'Alí-Muḥammad who was named a Hand of the Cause by 'Abdu'l-Bahá and an Apostle of Bahá'u'lláh by Shoghi Effendi. The assassination of Náṣiri'd-Din Sháh was initially laid at the door of the Bahá'ís, and Varqá and his son Rúḥu'lláh were put to death in revenge. Varqá was cut to pieces before the eyes of his twelve-year-old son who, refusing to recant, was then strangled with a rope. |
