Detatchment
___________________
To submit one's will to the will of God and to seek His good pleasure above one's own. Attachment to this world can be described as anything which prevents the soul from drawing nearer to God. Detachment does not mean renunciation of the world, mendicancy or asceticism. Bahá'u'lláh has stated, ‘Should a man wish to adorn himself with the ornaments of the earth, to wear its apparels, or partake of the benefits it can bestow, no harm can behall him, if he alloweth nothing whatever to intervene between him and God, for God hath ordained every good thing, whether created in the heavens or in the earth, for such of His servants as truly believe in Him.'21
Possession of earthly goods is not the only form of attachment. Pride in one's accomplishments, knowledge, position or own self can also be a barrier between oneself and God. Ridding oneself of these is also detachment.
