Continental Board of Counsellors |
An institution created in 1968 by the Universal House of Justice as a means of developing ‘the institution of the Hands of the Cause with a view to extension into the future of its appointed functions of protection and propagation,' as the House had already indicated that it saw ‘no way in which additional Hands of the Cause of God' could be appointed.15 |
The duties of the Counsellors include ‘directing the Auxiliary Boards in their respective areas, consulting and collaborating with national spiritual assemblies, and keeping the Hands of the Cause and the Universal House of Justice informed concerning the conditions of the Cause in their areas.'16 Counsellors are appointed for terms of five years and function as Counsellors only when in the continent to which they have been appointed, unless they are appointed to the International Teaching Centre. Counsellors are not eligible for any elective office, except the Universal House of Justice. If elected to the Universal House of Justice, the Counsellor ceases to be a member of the Board of Counsellors. |
